This Level 5 Management qualification is suitable for middle and operational managers who have responsibilities for others, possibly having other team leaders or first-line managers reporting to them.

The Level 5 Extended Diploma in Management and Leadership is a highly sought after management qualification and is essential for those seeking be at the top of their profession or progress to Higher Education programmes such as MSC in Management or MBA’s.

It is part of a suite of management qualifications offered at this level which include Award, Certificate, Diploma and Extended Diploma.

This sought after leadership and management qualification consists of nine units of learning, five of which are mandatory core units. The remaining 4 units are a free choice to suit your own job role. Unit Credit values must total 62 minimum. Core unit topics include:

Your Level 5 Management and Leadership course will last for 15 months although you can complete sooner if you wish. Most people complete within twelve months.

During this time you will be allocated a tutor who will be your personal guide, mentor and coach. They will be an expert in their field and distance learning. You can be confident that their support and help will give you every opportunity to be successful.you can contact them as often as you need.

Your personal tutor will also assess the work you have to submit for your qualification. They will provide you with full written feedback.

You will also have 24/7 access to our on-line portal where you will be able to access all your study resources. On the portal you will find your course text for each unit which can be read on-line or downloaded and printed.

Our portal also contains additional research resources to help you maximise your study time and assignment guides to help you with assignments.

You will also benefit from student membership of the CMI.

Once you have enrolled you will be emailed your joining instructions which will enable to to immediately access our learning portal and all of your learning materials. we will then allocate a tutor to you and register you with the Institute.

Delivery method

DELIVERY METHOD

Our courses are delivered through highly supportive distance learning using a combination of personal tutor support and access to i-cademy our on-line learning portal.

On enrolment you will receive instructions on how to gain immediate access to the i-cademy learning portal where you will find all your learning materials and other study resources available for immediate viewing and download.

You will also be allocated a personal tutor who will guide you through your course, undertake telephone tutorials and assess all of your course assignments.

You will need a PC, Laptop, Notebook or tablet with sound, internet access, and meet minimum browser requirements of: Firefox 4+, Internet Explorer 8, Safari 5, Google Chrome 11, or Opera 9. You will need to disable pop-up blockers and enable cookies for the learning portal.

If you would prefer not to use our online portal and use traditional distance learning with physical workbooks and learning materials please let us know in advance as we are more than happy to provide this for an additional fee.

Assessment

ASSESSMENT

The CMI Level 5 Certificate in Management and Leadership consists of two units of learning.

In order to achieve this management qualification you must successfully complete a written work-based assignment of around 2,000-2,500 words for each unit studied. One of the units studied is a management project.

The standard of work is graduate.

To achieve this level 5 Extended Diploma in Management and Leadership qualification you must study a range of mandatory and optional units:

Mandatory units Group A: 5001, 5002, 5004, 5005, 5006

Options Group B: One from: 5003/5012

Options Group C: Three from 5007, 5008, 5009, 5010, 5011, 5013, 5021, 6003. These units must have a minimum credit value of 19.

Content includes: the impact of organisational objectives on the manager, identifying management and leadership skills, the role of personal development in meeting objectives, meeting organisational health and safety requirements.

5002V1 Information based decision-making   Credit: 7

Content includes: identifying information requirements, using data and information, decision making skills, effective communication skills.

5003V1 Performance management   Credit: 9

Content includes: managing performance to meet organisational objectives, assessing team and individual performance, managing conflict, create and manage performance improvements strategies.

5004V1 Resource management   Credit: 7

Content includes: understand the organisations supply chain, create effective resource plans to meet objectives, use resource information to plan for the future.

5005V1 Meeting stakeholder and quality needs  Credit: 6

Content includes: stakeholder analysis, understanding and applying key quality concepts, implementing continuous improvement.

5006 Conducting a management project   Credit: 10

Content includes: identifying, research and undertaking a work related project, including reviewing the impact of the project and the production of a management report.

5007V1 Financial control      Credit: 9

Content includes: understanding and using financial management information, developing and reviewing budgets and evaluating financial proposals.

5008V1 Marketing planning   Credit: 9

Content includes: understanding key marketing concepts, developing and implement a marketing plan.

5009V1 Project development and control   Credit: 6

Content includes: understanding the project life cycle, approaches to project management, developing and monitoring a project plan.

5010V1 Human resource development  Credit: 6

Content includes: developing HR plans, undertaking TNA’s, creating, implementing, and evaluating development plans for individuals.

5011V1 Managing recruitment and selection   Credit: 7

Content includes: identifying staffing level requirements, understanding effective recruitment processes, including legal requirements and making good selection decisions.

5012 Being a leader Credit: 7

Content includes: understanding different types of leadership styles and when to use them, developing leadership skills for impact.

5013V1 Leadership Practice   Credit: 7

Content includes: balancing management and leadership requirements, leadership strategies, empowerment, the impact of values on leadership.

5020V1 Introduction to management and leadership Credit: 7
(This unit is intended for aspiring or very new managers) 

Content includes: a foundation unit suitable for an award dealing with management development, using information, stakeholder needs, general principles of recruitment and performance management.

5021V1 Operational risk management  Credit: 7

Content includes: risk identification, risk evaluation, principles of risk management & models for managing risk.

5022V1 Organisational corporate social responsibility   Credit: 7

Content includes: balancing management and leadership requirements, leadership strategies, empowerment, the impact of values on leadership.

6003 Managing the change process   Credit 7
This unit is only available as an optional unit on the Extended Diploma.

Content includes: change management models, understanding the impact of change, plan, manage and gain support for change.
